Northgate Church Services

congregation

The regular service time is 10.45 a.m.

Junior Church forms an integral part of the services and there is a crèche.
For the young people, there is also a regular "Sunday Extra" meeting in the evening.

There are Prayer Inspiration and Praise services (PIPS) held on a regular basis which offer alternative styles of worship, based on contemporary hymns and readings.

Communion services are held on a monthly basis.

There is a thriving Church orchestra, which forms an essential part of services and often travels to outlying Churches as part of a worship team.

The Orchestra recently made a CD of a mixture of favourite church and secular pieces.

The CD, entitled "Northgate Praise" (which is also the title track) is available from Liz Hayward

Springfield

The Springfield Church Centre building was demolished in 2009 under an agreement with the Darlington Corps of the Salvation Amy in order to allow the redevelopment of the site as a Salvation Army centre with continued URC involvement.

The former Salvation Army Citadel near Northgate church closed in 2008 and the Army worshipped with Northgate members during the period when they had no centre of their own.

The new Citadel is fully open and a joy to behold - click on the link below for a picture.

Please see the Springfield History page for more details Springfield history.

Church Music

To complement the fine Binns organ, referred to later, we have an Orchestra and Choir :

The Choir helps to lead the music in church every Sunday morning and on special occasions is augmented by church members to perform special pieces.

The Church Orchestra meets regularly for practice on Friday evenings and brings together young musicians with experienced adults. We find that the Orchestra is a great draw to our church and we welcome anyone to come and join in with the "friendly bunch" Why not contact our Music Leader Dot Thomson

The Guild are active in arranging daytime fellowship activities; many of these result in donations to the church, through social and other events. Key points in the calendar are the Carol Service and Women's World Day of Prayer.

Women’s Evening Fellowship

The Women's Evening Fellowship meets on alternate Thursday evenings at 7.30pm in Chesnut Street Hall from September to May.

Our meetings are very informal and generally attended by about fifteen members, with a guest speaker. Occasionally we have Open Meetings to which we particularly invite the whole church.

Recently, several members have been making a Story Sack for use in local primary schools. Visitors are welcome at any or all of our meetings.
